Path of the Gods

#Please note there is currently a temporary closure on part of the Godley Head track. We are still offering guided walks in the area on a slightly altered route.

The spectacular Godley Head Loop Track is undoubtedly one of the best hikes in Christchurch, this undulating  track boasts breathtaking coastal views, historic landmarks from WW2, and quaint little beaches to boot.  You will look back over the water towards Christchurch City, taking in the beautiful Pegasus Bay stretching north, and the majestic Southern Alps beyond. Eastern Vistas include the serene Lyttelton harbour which nestles inside the Volcano Crater, and the wide open expanses of the wild Pacific Ocean and rugged coastline.

  • Secluded beaches
  • Coastal tracks
  • Stunning Lyttelton Harbor views
  • Penguin Colony
  • WWII Coastal Defence Battery
  • Gun Emplacements and Battery Observation Posts
  • Murals by Christchurch Street artist Wongi Wilson
  • 100 year old baches and old cave dwellings
  • Scott's Cabin (Antarctic exploration)
  • Full day walk includes a stop at a local beach side cafe

The full day walk is 8km, however our guides can adapt the duration of this walk so you can see the highlights, or spend a whole day taking in all the area has to offer.
A beautifully maintained track suitable for low to moderate levels of fitness. There is some ascent and decent involved, and track can occasionally be muddy. Please get in touch before the walk if you have any concerns as this can be adapted to suit.

This walk is available for both our full and half day walks. If you would specifically like to do this walk, please request 'Path of the Gods' when booking, or your guide will recommend the best Crater Rim Walk on the day based on weather and track conditions.
